COURSE DESCRIPTION

There is national and international focus on social and sustainable procurement. It can help stimulate local economic development and deliver benefits far beyond good financial value. This Melbourne MicroCert is ideal for professionals who work in procurement or engage with procurement processes and want a deeper understanding of how to apply these social procurement practices in a range of priority areas. This course builds on the knowledge gained in Foundations of Social and Sustainable Procurement. Explore procurement policies and frameworks: Study real-life social procurement case studies and gain a deeper knowledge of key Victorian, Australian and international regulatory frameworks. Building on the foundational course, you’ll begin to put into practice the procurement concepts, theories and policies you examined. Support local businesses and employment: Discover procurement practices that aim to support local economic growth and development, and best achieve benefits beyond value for money. Consider how these can apply within your own procurement context. Improve community, environmental and socio-economic outcomes: Explore how to address social disadvantage by purchasing from social enterprises and suppliers that support disadvantaged workers. Learn how to ensure goods and services within your supply chain adhere to ethical practices in relation to workers, environment and society. Drive demand for Indigenous businesses: Discover how procurement can drive demand for Indigenous goods and services and stimulate Indigenous business development as well as the overall economy. Apply social procurement best practices: Drawing on your new knowledge, apply social and sustainable procurement practices within your own role and organisational context. Develop a pitch that demonstrates how social procurement can drive positive community, environmental and socio-economic impacts.

Skills and learning outcomes: By the end of this course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of social procurement approaches and how to apply them. You’ll be able to: Recognise and critique different approaches to social procurement in the Australian context; Identify the key participants in the Australian social procurement sphere, and discuss how they intersect; Apply social procurement approaches in an organisational context in order to improve outcomes from a community, environmental and socio-economic perspective.
