COURSE DESCRIPTION

The relationship between the individual and society is a complex and constantly shifting one. As a student of Sociology you will examine contemporary issues facing society through a social and historical lens and question common-sense assumptions which are taken for granted. Over the course of your degree you will also gain the tools you need to tackle a host of social problems such as inequality and social exclusion and skills to investigate and understand social issues.

Sociology explores how social relationships and structures shape our everyday lives and enables you to see the world through various sociological perspectives. Here at The University of Notre Dame Australia, our Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Sociology is a three-year, full-time degree. In this program, you will look at issues, such as the sociology of childhood, gender, the impact of ability through disability studies, public and social policy and genocide.

The study of sociology offers graduates a systematic framework from which to examine a wide range of issues facing contemporary society, inform professional practice and make a contribution to society. It also offers you practical tools to research social issues.

With skills in inquiry, analysis and research, Sociology graduates can undertake careers as practitioners within community, government and non-government agencies in roles focusing on social and consumer research, social and public policy, social welfare, advocacy, policy, education, public relations, public service and journalism and the media.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet High school qualifications (or equivalent) to apply for undergraduate program. Academic minimum entry requirements for international applicants vary from country to country.

IELTS (Academic) – 6.5 overall, with no individual band score lower than 6.0; CAE/CPE – 176 overall, with no individual band score lower than 169; PTE Academic – 58 overall, with no individual band score lower than 50; TOEFL (iBT) – 84 overall, with no score lower than 21 in writing and no other band score lower than 17.
