COURSE DESCRIPTION

As the Australian population becomes more sedentary, physical activity plays an increasingly important role in community health and wellbeing. Our comprehensive Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Science degree examines the implications of physical activity on public health, issues such as rehabilitation and also prepares our students to work with elite athletes.

Why study this degree?

The Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Science examines the implications of physical activity on general health, rehabilitation and elite athletic performance. As part of the degree, you are exposed to a broad range of applications in the exercise and sport sciences and learn how they can be applied in the areas of health promotion, rehabilitation, physical education and elite athletic training.

The degree is accredited by the national industry body, Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Graduates of an ESSA accredited course are able to work in Australia with athletes and sports teams in the areas of exercise and sports science and strength and conditioning. Further, graduates are able to obtain additional accreditation in strength and conditioning, and a Certificate IV in Health and Fitness so that they are job-ready at the completion of their degree.

Program learning outcomes

At the completion of this course, graduates should be able to:

  • Interpret and apply knowledge across the sub disciplines of exercise and sport science.
  • Assess health behaviours and conditions, human movement and skills to evaluate and prescribe exercise programs in healthy populations across a range of exercise settings.
  • Apply research skills for evidence-based practice that enhances professional knowledge, including the ability to compile, critically evaluate and communicate the scientific rationale for professional decision making and service delivery.
  • Exemplify professional and ethical standards in practical, interpersonal and theoretical contexts and conduct that is sensitive to client diversity and equity.
  • Practice within the scope of exercise science training and recognise any need to refer a client to other related health professionals.
  • Demonstrate capacity as an exercise sports scientist through educational engagement, self -evaluation of practice, inter-professional working relationships and advocacy for exercise science.
  • Articulate objective and universal truth, appreciate the intrinsic dignity of the human person, and exhibit good intellectual, moral and theological habits.

Professional accreditation:

This course has been accredited by the national industry body, Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA). Graduates of this course are eligible for registration with ESSA as exercise and sport scientists upon completion of the degree. Further postgraduate study completing the Graduate Diploma in Exercise Science within the School of Health Sciences enables students to become accredited by ESSA as clinical exercise physiologists.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet High school qualifications (or equivalent) to apply for undergraduate program. Academic minimum entry requirements for international applicants vary from country to country.

IELTS (Academic) – 6.5 overall, with no writing score lower than 6.5 and no other individual band score lower than 6.0; CAE/CPE – 176 overall, with no score lower than 176 in writing and no other band score lower than 169; PTE Academic – 58 overall, with no score lower than 58 in writing and no other band score lower than 50; TOEFL (iBT) – 84 overall, with no score lower than 22 in writing and no other band score lower than 17.
