COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Bachelor of Health Promotion (Preventive Health) from The University of Notre Dame Australia provides an exciting pathway into the field of health management. With a strong focus on the practical improvement of individual and community health and wellbeing, you will learn the ways and means in which our current health system can be improved.

Why study this degree?

The Bachelor of Health Promotion focuses on promoting individual and community health and wellbeing. You will develop a clear understanding of how social and other health determinants impact health and wellbeing as well as the effectiveness of socio-environmental, population and community approaches to health promotion.

Throughout the course you explore the psychological aspects of health behaviour, behavioural aspects of change, health promotion principles, frameworks, planning and implementation, social marketing; principles of community development, project management and health related research and evaluation.

Graduates will find a wide range of occupations open to them, such as health promotion, community development, health education and health research.

Program learning outcomes

At the completion of this course, graduates should be able to:

Interpret and apply information regarding health related determinants, behaviours and interventions from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
Apply research skills that builds capacity to update health related professional knowledge as a basis for independent lifelong learning.
Critically appraise the evidence relating to preventive health interventions to identify effective and ineffective ways to address health issues and their contributing factors.
Plan, develop, implement and evaluate preventive health projects that address priority health issues for people of diverse backgrounds and in a range of settings.
Critically analyse and interpret research literature, quantitative and qualitative data and effectively communicate results both orally and written for a variety of purposes and audiences.
Exemplify professional standards in a variety of practical, interpersonal and theoretical contexts related to preventive health and its associated fields.
Articulate objective and universal truth, appreciate the intrinsic dignity of the human person, and exhibit good intellectual, moral and theological habits.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet High school qualifications (or equivalent) to apply for undergraduate program. Academic minimum entry requirements for international applicants vary from country to country.

IELTS (Academic) – 6.5 overall, with no writing score lower than 6.5 and no other individual band score lower than 6.0; CAE/CPE – 176 overall, with no score lower than 176 in writing and no other band score lower than 169; PTE Academic – 58 overall, with no score lower than 58 in writing and no other band score lower than 50; TOEFL (iBT) – 84 overall, with no score lower than 22 in writing and no other band score lower than 17.
