COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy/Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Science is a five-year, full-time degree that focuses on the physiotherapist-client relationship and is highly practical in its orientation. In addition to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, this double degree with Exercise & Sport Science includes more detailed information about the analysis of physical activity, exercise prescription and health in sport. As a student in the School of Physiotherapy, you will undertake a comprehensive university program, including specialised physiotherapy studies, behavioural and health sciences and professional development. Upon graduation, you will be eligible for registration as a physiotherapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA).

Designed by highly-respected industry practitioners, our Bachelor of Physiotherapy/Bachelor of
Exercise & Sport Science program is the only degree of its kind in Australia. Accredited by the
Physiotherapy Board of Australia, this double degree provides a pathway that incorporates two
complementary programs in the health and exercise sciences.

Physiotherapy and Exercise & Sport Science share a common bond in much of the human sciences while also having specialised knowledge and application within each path. This gives you the opportunity to develop profession-specific areas of knowledge and skills from both degrees. In order to ensure that you graduate with the practical skills and training necessary to excel, this combined degree contains 1400 hours of workplace experience. This practicum component is composed of physiotherapy-specific clinical placements in addition to Exercise & Sport Science practical experiences. From your first year, you will experience physiotherapy clinical practice through our Pre-Clinical Experience program. The second and fourth years of your degree also include industry practicums in Exercise & Sport Science.

Your formal physiotherapy clinical education program begins with a five-week placement in Year
Three, continues in Year Four and culminates in almost full-time clinical practice during Year Five of the course. Upon graduation, you will have developed your clinical assessment, treatment skills and reflective professional practice in laboratories and through exposure to patients in physiotherapy practices, hospital or community health settings in urban and rural centres.
