COURSE DESCRIPTION
Place yourself at the forefront of the pharmacy profession, and prepare for a vital and rewarding career improving the health and wellbeing of others.
This program prepares you to play a vital role in the healthcare system.
You’ll learn in dedicated laboratories and simulated pharmacies at the Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE) – our state-of-the-art biomedical science centre.
With 6 integrated streams of study, you’ll develop knowledge and skills in quality use of medicines, dosage form design, social and professional aspects of pharmacy, drug discovery, biological fate of drugs and data analysis.
From your first year, you’ll undertake a variety of practical experiences, before starting 24-week block placements in your final year.
Across your degree, you’ll complete more than 350 hours of supervised clinical placement in a range of clinical settings, including hospitals and community pharmacies. We have partnerships with more than 500 pharmacies throughout rural and metropolitan Australia and overseas.
You’ll graduate ready to work in a profession that has one of the highest graduate employment rates of any occupation in Australia.
Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics
This optional major enables you to pursue a research-focused career in hospital pharmacy, the pharmacy industry or academia.
In your final year you’ll have the opportunity to complete a yearlong research project while working as a part of a research team. You’ll expand your knowledge and develop high-level skills in critical and analytical thinking, research design, writing and project management.
After graduating, you’ll have the option to further develop your research skills through a PhD or Master of Philosophy.
Entry to this major is competitive, based on your grade point average and project availability.
The Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE) is the primary teaching location for students studying Pharmacy at The University of Queensland.
REQUIREMENTS
Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C); General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C); and Chemistry (Units 3 & 4, C). (Biology also recommended)
English language requirements
IELTS overall 7; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ
TOEFL IBT – Overall 100, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21, speaking 19
TOEFL PB – Overall 600, listening 54, reading 54, writing 59/5
Pearsons – Overall 72, all sub bands minimum 60
BE – A minimum overall grade of 5 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills
CES – Overall 185, all sub bands minimum 169
