COURSE DESCRIPTION

Learn how to assess and treat a range of emotional and behavioural problems so you can meet your registration requirements to become a psychologist.

The Master of Clinical Psychology provides the training, skills and knowledge to let you practice competently and confidently in the psychology profession.

Clinical psychologists promote optimal levels of psychological functioning to decrease levels of psychological distress. They have expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of a broad range of emotional and behavioural problems, including anxiety, depression, stress, substance addiction and abuse, adjustment to physical illness, relationship difficulties and learning disabilities.

This two-year full-time program provides in-depth knowledge and professional skills in clinical psychology through a combination of coursework, supervised practice and research. You’ll gain a foundation in the scientific basis and practice of clinical psychology and receive training in clinical practice, which employs evidence-based, best-practice models in health and mental health settings.

You’ll develop your skills and apply your knowledge through 1000 hours of supervised clinical placements in a range of organisations including not-for-profit, community service and private practice.

REQUIREMENTS

An approved 4-year bachelor degree in psychology (minimum IIA honours) or equivalent 4-year APAC-accredited program.

Applicants must be eligible for provisional or if applicable, full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Applicants with non-Australian degrees must have their qualifications assessed by the APS.

English Proficiency

IELTS overall 7; reading 7; writing 7; speaking 7; listening 7. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ

TOEFL IBT – Overall 100, listening 25, reading 25, writing 27, speaking 23.

TOEFL PB – Overall 600, listening 59, reading 59, writing 64/6.

Pearsons – Overall 72, sub bands minimum 72.

CES – Overall 185, All sub bands minimum 185.

BEP and OET are not accepted.
