You’ll learn to
Discover broad historical perspectives on the nature and contexts of music and the relevance of historical and stylistic conventions from various periods.
Develop transferable skills in research, critical thinking and communication which enable successful tertiary study, and facilitate further study and lifelong learning.
Critically engage with, and interpret key texts and works from, a range of music sub-disciplines.
Demonstrate a socio-cultural and historically sensitive perspective of various forms of music and music cultures.
Career Pathways
Graduates will gain skills applicable to a range of creative and theoretical professions. Some may pursue careers as an Arts and Cultural sector worker, a cultural historian or discover a role within a community organisation
Further Study
After completing the Music and Society major, you can pursue further studies at honours level or complete a PhD in Music Research.
REQUIREMENTS
Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete an international academic qualification equivalent to Australian High School (or equivalent).
English language requirements:
IELTS (academic): Overall minimum score of 6.5, no band lower than 6.0
TOEFL Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): an overall score of 82 or above with a minimum score of 22 in writing, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 20 in listening
Pearsons Test of English (PTE) (academic): An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the other sections
