COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Medical Science extended major focuses on mechanisms of health and human disease, providing you with the essential preclinical knowledge to prepare you for a broad range of careers in health and biomedical science-related fields.

Medical Science can only be taken as a degree-specific major in the Bachelor of Biomedicine (Specialised).

Course Structure

Two core units each semester in Level 1 and 2, and one integrated body system unit is each semester in Level 3. These core units articulate with specialisation units, which differ depending on the chosen specialisation.

The Medical Science Extended Major provides learning across a broad arena of health and medical disciplines, designed to articulate with UWA’s health professional degrees.

Within the Medical Science Extended Major, multiple specialisations in biomedical disciplines are offered to enable breadth and depth of learning in your field of interest. Specialisations include Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing, Anatomy and Reproductive Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Microbiology and Immunology, and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

You’ll take a set of core units in Levels 1 and 2, along with your chosen specialisation units. In Level 3, you’ll complete your specialisation units plus two body systems units.

This multi-disciplinary program delivered by award winning educators and researchers will support you to think critically and creatively.

REQUIREMENTS

Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete an international academic qualification equivalent to Australian High School (or equivalent).

English language requirements:

IELTS (academic): Overall minimum score of 6.5, no band lower than 6.0

TOEFL Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): an overall score of 82 or above with a minimum score of 22 in writing, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 20 in listening

Pearsons Test of English (PTE) (academic): An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the other sections
