COURSE DESCRIPTION
This extended major in Human Sciences focuses on the complementary disciplines of Anatomy and Physiology. The major provides foundational information on these disciplines, from the molecular level to organs and body systems, and explores how human form and function have adapted and acclimatised to different environmental conditions. Study topics include functional anatomy, exercise and clinical physiology.
Course Structure
The Human Sciences (Anatomy and Physiology) major will consist of 144 points (24 six-point units) within the Bachelor of Human Sciences. Students normally take eight units each year, four in each semester.
You’ll learn to:
Demonstrate familiarity with human anatomy and physiological function in health and disease
Understand how changes in environmental conditions can impact human physiological function
Analyse and interpret anatomical and physiological data obtained from different measurement and imaging systems
Appreciate the value of human diversity and how it informs the disciplines of anatomy and physiology
Career Pathways
The Human Sciences (Anatomy and Physiology) major is relevant for a wide range of career opportunities in health-related industries. Careers include, but are not limited to, anatomist, physiologist and health policy officer.
Further Study
Direct entry into the professional UWA Masters programs including; Optometry, Clinical Audiology, Podiatry and Pharmacy. This extended major also provides an excellent foundation for post-graduate entry medical and dentistry degrees.
REQUIREMENTS
Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete an international academic qualification equivalent to Australian High School (or equivalent).
English language requirements:
IELTS (academic): Overall minimum score of 6.5, no band lower than 6.0
TOEFL Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): an overall score of 82 or above with a minimum score of 22 in writing, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 20 in listening
Pearsons Test of English (PTE) (academic): An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the other sections
