COURSE DESCRIPTION

This major focuses on data and scientific computation. In our data-driven world, information is now being collected at an unprecedented speed and scale. According to IBM, more than 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are generated a day. From predicting trends to protecting personal information, companies around the world need data scientists to process, explore and harness meaning from their data.

Content in this major is delivered in lectures given by world-renowned experts in the field, as well as tutorials with your peers and practical laboratory classes where you will put your theoretical knowledge into practice using the latest technologies.

As organisations around the world implement data analytics programs, the demand for data scientists is only set to increase. Opportunities exist in areas such as energy and resources engineering, bioinformatics and biochemistry, computational physics and astronomy, transportation, health, finance, marketing, geophysics, geographic information systems and biomechanics.

You could apply for entry to honours and the Master of Data Science after completing the requirements of this major.

REQUIREMENTS

Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete an international academic qualification equivalent to Australian High School (or equivalent).

English language requirements:

IELTS (academic): Overall minimum score of 6.5, no band lower than 6.0

TOEFL Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): an overall score of 82 or above with a minimum score of 22 in writing, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 20 in listening

Pearsons Test of English (PTE) (academic): An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the other sections
