COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides an overview of the skills, knowledge and capabilities required to participate in the global communications environment across industry, government agencies and community organisations.

Gain a preliminary overview of the skills, knowledge and capabilities required to participate in the contemporary communications environment across industry, government agencies and community organisations. You’ll gain practical skills and understanding relevant to a broad range of communications and media roles and advance your capabilities for developing effective communication strategies and projects across digital and traditional formats.

Course structure

Postgraduate coursework degrees and combined (coursework and research) degrees comprise a number of units.

Career Pathways

Career opportunities in the communications sector are constantly growing. Almost all large organisations need a communications expert to advise on corporate communications, community liaison projects and human resources-based projects such as change management. In addition, private organisations in consumer marketing, media, public relations, advertising and digital communications require strategic communications specialists.

Further Study

Upon successfully completing your course, you can choose to progress to a graduate diploma or master’s degree in Strategic Communication. Depending on your circumstances, this may be subject to you achieving a course weighted average mark of 65 per cent. If you do enrol in the graduate diploma or master’s course, you will receive (subject to conditions) full credit for units completed in your graduate certificate.

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—(a) a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and(b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent.

English language requirements:

TOEFL (paper-based): 570 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of no less than 4.5

IBT TOEFL (Internet-based test score): 82 with 22 for writing, 20 for speaking, 20 for listening, and 18 for reading

IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0)

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: C pass

Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B grade

Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic): Overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 64 in the Reading and Writing sections, 59 in the Speaking section and 54 in the Listening section
