COURSE DESCRIPTION

This double master’s degree is the only one of its kind in Australia and teaches complementary skills in Business and Translation Studies. You’ll complete translation training between English and one of eight Asian and European languages, alongside a commerce specialisation. The skills you develop will make you a bilingual professional employable in a broad range of national and international settings.

Career Pathways

UWA’s Master of Commerce and Master of Translation Studies gives you a qualification relevant to professional employment in a range of multilingual contexts, including business, government and non-government organisations in Australia and overseas.

Further Study

Students choosing the Dissertation pathway in their second year of their studies will be eligible to apply for a PhD in Translation studies, as a step towards an academic career or a career requiring excellent research skills.

REQUIREMENTS

(1) a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA;

and

(a) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent in the Level 3 units of a relevant major;

or

(b) at least two years professional experience in a relevant occupation;

or

(c) completed a Graduate Certificate in Finance, or Graduate Certificate in Human Resources and Employment Relations, or Graduate Certificate in Business Information and Logistics Management, or Graduate Certificate in Commerce, or Graduate Certificate in Marketing, or Graduate Certificate in Economics at UWA.

and

(2)(a) demonstrated native or near-native proficiency in the chosen language specialisation;

or

(b) for French, Italian, German, and Spanish, B2/C1 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; for Chinese, a minimum of HSK 4; for Japanese, Level N2/N3 at the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test); for Indonesian, Level 3 at the UKBI (UjianKemahiran Bahasa Indonesia) or Level 4 at the ISLPR (International Second Language Proficiency Ratings); and for Korean, Level 4 at the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean).

English language requirements:

TOEFL (paper-based): 570 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of no less than 4.5

IBT TOEFL (Internet-based test score): 82 with 22 for writing, 20 for speaking, 20 for listening, and 18 for reading

IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0)

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: C pass

Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B grade

Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic): Overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 64 in the Reading and Writing sections, 59 in the Speaking section and 54 in the Listening section
