COURSE DESCRIPTION
This specialist degree is designed for professionals or graduates to pursue composition or performance at postgraduate level, as well as investigate the theoretical/historical aspects of performance and composition.
This specialist degree extends existing skills in music, both as a professional-level degree and as a platform for doctoral-level study. It can be taken in either composition or performance and consists of a combination of thesis and creative work.
Career Pathways
Graduates of this course will be equipped with advanced level creative, communication, research and analytical skills, allowing them to take the next step in their career pathway.
Further Study
Further postgraduate study options include the Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Musical Arts.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are expected to have a Bachelor of Music with at least upper second class honours or equivalent. An applicant who does not have a Bachelor of Music with at least upper second class honours or whose major field of study has not been music may be required to pass a qualifying examination or undertake preliminary study. Applicants for the Master of Music will be required to pass an admission audition and interview (performance) or portfolio review (composition and musicology) for the Conservatorium before lodging an application with the Graduate Research School.
English language requirements:
TOEFL (paper-based): 570 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of no less than 4.5
IBT TOEFL (Internet-based test score): 82 with 22 for writing, 20 for speaking, 20 for listening, and 18 for reading
IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0)
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: C pass
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B grade
Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic): Overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 64 in the Reading and Writing sections, 59 in the Speaking section and 54 in the Listening section
