COURSE DESCRIPTION

As a dual qualification, this course allows you to complete both the Master of Professional Accounting and the prestigious Chartered Accountants (CA) program at the same time. UWA is the only Group of 8 university, and the only university in Western Australia, to offer this unique qualification. The Master of Professional Accounting (Chartered Accounting) is delivered in partnership between UWA and Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) and is ideal for those who wish to quickly transition to a professional accounting career and those seeking a distinctive, advanced postgraduate accounting qualification.

Course structure

The Master of Professional Accounting (Chartered Accounting) is completed in three stages:
Stage 1: Conversion Units
You will complete four conversion units to prepare you for study in this course. Depending on prior learning, you may be eligible for an exemption to one or more of these units.
Stage 2: Core Units
You will complete nine core units addressing taxation, corporate law, finance, accounting information systems, auditing, financial accounting, and management accounting.
Stage 3: Chartered Accounting Units
You will complete six Chartered Accounting units delivered in partnership between UWA and Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (CA ANZ). To gain admission to Stage 3, you must have a weighted average mark of at least 65% across stages 1 and 2.

Account for advanced corporate accounting transactions.

Critically apply advanced theoretical and technical accounting knowledge to provide possible solutions to emerging and/or advanced business issues.

Use clear and concise written and oral communication in complex accounting contexts to influence accountants and non-accountants

Contribute accounting expertise in diverse teams seeking solutions to emerging and/or advanced business problems in complex contexts.

Use accounting and business-related software to enhance decision-making and business efficiency.

What is the CA Program?

The Chartered Accountants (CA) program is one of the most highly regarded professional accounting qualifications in the world. The program addresses the practical application of advanced accounting knowledge and is the pathway to international recognition as a Chartered Accountant. The advanced chartered accounting units you will complete as part of this course are:
i. Ethics, Risk and Technology
ii. Financial Accounting and Reporting
iii. Business Performance
iv. Taxation
v. Auditing
vi. Integrated Chartered Accounting Practice (ICAP).
Normally, students commence the CA Program after they have graduated from an accredited accounting course. However, by integrating the CA Program, the Master of Professional Accounting (Chartered Accounting) enables you to fast-track your progression to the ‘Chartered Accountant’ designation.

Career Pathways

Chartered accountants are employed in professional accounting firms, large and small for-profit entities as well as not-for-profit and government organisations. Major employers include firms such as Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, major corporates like Wesfarmers and Woodside, small businesses, public sector, local government.

REQUIREMENTS

(1)(a) a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and either:(b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent; or(c) at least two years professional experience in a relevant occupation; or(2) completed a Graduate Certificate in Commerce at UWA.

Applicants who have a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in accounting, or an equivalent qualification, are not eligible for admission.

English language requirements:

TOEFL (paper-based): 570 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of no less than 4.5

IBT TOEFL (Internet-based test score): 82 with 22 for writing, 20 for speaking, 20 for listening, and 18 for reading

IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0)

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: C pass

Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B grade

Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic): Overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 64 in the Reading and Writing sections, 59 in the Speaking section and 54 in the Listening section
