COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Bachelor of Sustainability is about understanding social and community sustainability as well as ecologically sustainable development. It provides a unique opportunity to develop skills and an understanding of sustainability in a holistic and multidisciplinary manner, integrating social science with environmental science.
1. Learning Outcomes: demonstrate multidisciplinary knowledge of sustainability including its biophysical and socio-economic aspects, and the interrelationships between environmental and social issues;
2. locate, evaluate, analyse, synthesise and critically apply knowledge and information about sustainability from a wide range of sources in an appropriate and professional manner;
3. exercise critical thinking and judgement to appreciate the causes of sustainability problems and demonstrate the capacity to develop effective, ethical and socially responsible solutions;
4. adapt and apply knowledge and skills in sustainability in a wide range of contexts, whether working as part of a team or independently;
5. communicate a current and critical knowledge of sustainability to a wide range of audiences in an appropriate and professional manner; and
6. demonstrate an enduring curiosity and high capacity for continuing engagement and professional activity in the field of sustainability.
Career outcomes
For graduates of the Bachelor of Sustainability, potential avenues for employment are endless and include the public sector, private sector and non-government fields.
Your options as a graduate may include:
• sustainability and environment officers
• policy advisers
• planning and research officers
• government planning and environment departments
• environmental protection agencies
• cultural and natural heritage management.
You could also progress your studies with a research postgraduate degree for a career in research with the CSIRO and universities.

REQUIREMENTS

Entry is based on Australian Year 12 equivalence. English Language Requirements: An IELTS (Academic): overall score – 6.0, Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking – 5.5; TOEFL Computer-based test overall score – 213, Internet-based test overall score -79, Writing – 22; Pearson PTE (Academic) overall score -57, Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking – 50.

The University of New England was originally formed in 1938 as the New England University College, a College of the University of Sydney. It became fully independent in 1954. The university is located on several sites in Armidale, NSW. All the programs are offered via the four faculties: Arts; Economics, Business and Law; Education, Health and Professional Studies; and The Sciences; these faculties incorporate 18 teaching schools. Research is offered in the areas of rural science, agricultural economics, geology, educational administration, linguistics, archaeology, etc.
