COURSE DESCRIPTION

Artificial intelligence (AI) encompasses a spectrum of technologies, algorithms, and methodologies that are aimed at simulating human intelligence in machines, allowing them to mimic cognitive functions such as learning and problem solving. Unlike traditional computer applications that are programmed for specific tasks, AI systems possess the ability to adapt and improve their performance through experience. AI plays an increasingly important role in our lives and now drives many of the experiences and interactions in our day-to-day activities. In essence, AI’s importance stems from its ability to augment human capabilities, address challenges, and unlock new possibilities across many domains.

The Master of Artificial Intelligence provides students with the required knowledge and practical skills to build systems based around AI technologies. Students will develop expertise in areas including machine learning, computer vision and data processing and apply these to solve complex problems. The program includes an industry–based project or research thesis where the students can further develop the skills introduced across the course.

The Master of Artificial Intelligence is a postgraduate course that complements any existing skillset and provides opportunity to upskill for positions that have a rigorous quantitative aspect. Graduates from this program will be well-equipped to tackle complex AI challenges and play a leading role in the future development of AI solutions globally.

Master of Artificial Intelligence graduates are eligible to apply for admission to PhD candidature, upon successful completion of the thesis.

Course aims

The Master of Artificial Intelligence is designed for graduates from all disciplines to complement their existing skills with a solid background in mathematics, data science and computer science, preparing them for advanced subjects in artificial intelligence units. The Master of Artificial Intelligence will produce graduates with specialised knowledge across a range of artificial intelligence technologies and the capability of developing systems around these technologies.

REQUIREMENTS

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline at the level of Credit (GPA 5) or above; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma or Bachelor with Honours in a relevant discipline at the level of Credit (GPA 5) or above.

Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: Biochemistry; Biology; Botany; Chemistry; Genetics; Geology; Mathematics; Microbiology; Physics; Physiology; Statistics; and Zoology. A degree will be considered relevant to a nominated major if it includes study that covers the minimum assumed knowledge. Where it is not clear from their academic background, applicants may include a cover letter with their application describing how they have achieved the minimum assumed knowledge.

An IELTS(Academic) overall score of at least 6.5 with no sub-band score less than 6.0 (or equivalent TOEFL score of at least 91 in the internet-based test with no less than 22 in the written component and 20 in listening, speaking and reading); or a Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic minimum overall score of 64 with no skill less than 58.
