COURSE DESCRIPTION
This degree creates work-ready professionals with sound knowledge in applied mathematics and strong multi-disciplinary skills.
Mathematics can open doors to a wide range of careers as new and improved solutions are sought to societal challenges. Employers are increasingly looking to quantify and understand data. You will develop the analytical and problem-solving skills to play a valuable role in the growth of society.
You will develop sound knowledge in applied mathematics. Because this degree is diverse and flexible, you’ll also explore the relationship and application of mathematics to other areas such as physics, engineering, information technology and biology.
Flexible study opportunities are available, you can study full-time or part-time.
What you’ll learn
In first year you’ll study core subjects in mathematics and IT. You will focus on building your mathematical and programming skills with courses that include calculus, statistical methods, fundamentals of programming, and databases.
You will study multi-disciplinary areas such as mathematical modelling, data collection and analysis, numerical analysis, and the implementation of computer-driven solutions. You can also choose to study a minor in Information Technology.
In your final year you will take part in the Maths Clinic program. In Maths Clinic a team of students, supported by a faculty supervisor, works on a problem in close consultation with an industry partner. This will strengthen your abilities in research, analysis, and interpretation of data.
Your career
With qualifications in Industrial and Applied Mathematics, your multi-disciplinary skills will position you for roles in sectors such as defence, government and finance.
