COURSE DESCRIPTION
Overview
Engineers contribute to the world around us in every way, from the big to the small. From life-saving medical equipment to the roads we drive on and the tech that makes keeping in touch with our loved ones easier.
UniSQ’s Associate Degree of Engineering (Computer Systems Engineering) will introduce you to the skills that make computer system engineers critical to the success of cutting-edge systems that power our tech world.
With the expert guidance and knowledge of industry professionals and academics, you will cover topics such as systems engineering and modelling, project management, safety lifecycles, risk management, interpreting data sheets and specifications. Software development, microcontroller interfacing and programming as well as basic electronics will also be examined across this 2-year degree (if studied full-time).
Beyond the creation and management, you will explore maintenance and troubleshooting in computer systems engineering – learn more about fault finding, problem framing and planning of the commissioning, operations and ongoing maintenance of engineering assets.
Consolidate your learning with the capstone project where you’ll work with a team to develop solutions for practical engineering problems encountered in operational environments.
Gain hands-on experience during on-campus residential school courses and 30 days of work experience in industry and be ready to graduate as an Engineering Associate (application through Engineers Australia) to kick-start your engineering career.
The Associate Degree is an ideal start to your career in engineering, providing the perfect stepping stone for further study into the Bachelor of Engineering Technology or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).
Further study
This degree is a great stepping stone to our Bachelor of Engineering Technology or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) where you will be credited for your studies already undertaken in the Associate Degree of Engineering.
Professional accreditation
When you graduate with your Associate Degree, you’ll be eligible for full accreditation with Engineers Australia. Apply for membership after you graduate to become an Engineering Associate and with the experience you will gain from working in the field, you can apply for chartered status as an Engineering Associate.
Career outcomes
An Associate Degree of Engineering, specialising in Computer Systems Engineering, will open doors to various entry-level positions in the field. Positions may include application software developer, computer hardware engineer, network support technician, IT technician and systems software developer. Further study will create opportunities for more senior engineering positions.
