COURSE DESCRIPTION

Overview

Charge up your career in a wide range of industries with UniSQ’s Associate Degree of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering), or set a steppingstone for further study.
With highly practical studies accessing our first-class laboratories, you’ll learn to use electrical and electronic equipment, measurement equipment, microprocessors, programmable logic controllers, and experience workshop practices to prepare you for the workforce.
Build your knowledge of electrical and electronic trade, translating practical know-how into physical and mathematical principles, and giving you a broad perspective of the entire engineering discipline and its practice. Gain a solid grounding in electrical theory, digital and analogue electronics, telecommunications and control principles, and learn how that theory is applied across a range of industries.
Your work will focus on specific elements of larger systems; applying established codes, practices and procedures to manufacture, install, commission and service small and large scale projects in the fields of electronics and telecommunications, transportation systems, resource extraction, electricity generation, or renewable technologies.
Do you already hold a Diploma through TAFE, prior studies, or experience through work? You may be able to fast-track your degree.

Further study

This degree articulates for further career development into our Bachelor of Engineering Science and the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) where you will be credited for your studies already undertaken in the Associate Degree of Engineering (if studying in the same major).

Professional accreditation

When you graduate with your Associate Degree, you’ll be eligible for full accreditation with Engineers Australia as an Engineering Associate (Officer).You will also have the opportunity to work overseas, with your accreditation recognised in countries that are signatories to the Dublin Accord.

Career outcomes

  • As a graduate of this degree, you will have the opportunity to become an electrical and electronic engineering officer, electrical or electronic drafter or designer, electrical maintenance technician or planner, power systems technician, telecommunications technician, technical officer, or engineering support officer in some of Australia’s biggest and most important industries.
  • With your graduate expertise you’ll be able to secure a career within a wide range of industries from railways, mining, manufacturing, waste processing, mineral processing, specialist technical sales, or with a major power company like Energy Queensland, Powerlink or Origin.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicant must have Australian year 12 level or equivalent.

Students from different country must have qualifications equivalent to Australia.

English language requirements

IELTS (Academic only) – Overall minimum score of 6.0 and no individual band score of less than 5.5; TOEFL (internet based) – Overall minimum score of 80 and no individual skills score of less than 19; Pearson (PTE Academic) – Overall score of 50 and no individual Communicative Skills score of less than 50; Cambridge C1 Advanced C2 Proficiency – Overall minimum score of 169 with no less than 162 in each skill.
