COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management is an ideal course for people who seek to pursue a career in the maritime industry. The maritime industry is at the forefront of international trade with dynamic work environments and provides exciting career opportunities. This course equips graduates with the ability to develop solutions for complex problems faced by the maritime industry.

The course comprises four units which provide skills and knowledge in effectively managing maritime business and transport activities. These units are designed to enhance students’ managerial and analytical skills to assist their career progression.
The course provides a pathway to the Graduate Diploma of Maritime Management and the MBA in Maritime Management.

Learning Outcomes:
1 Synthesise key concepts of the maritime industry to support decision-making in a range of contexts.
2 Analyse maritime management issues to support organisational strategies development.
3 Communicate maritime management concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Course structure:
The Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management consists of 4 units of study. At least 2 units should be selected from the core unit list, and the remaining units are selected from the option unit list.

REQUIREMENTS

An undergraduate degree of an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institution; or Hold a professional qualification such as a Certificate of Competency as a Master Class 1 (Unlimited) or Engineer Class 1/Chief Engineer (Unlimited); or If a first degree or professional qualification is not held, prospective candidates may apply the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management for consideration. These applicants are assessed on their work experience and current managerial responsibilities.

A cognate undergraduate degree would be in the same or related area eg, maritime management, logistics management, supply chain management, nautical science, marine engineering, maritime engineering (naval architecture, ocean engineering), and business management; or any Bachelor degree with a major in business, logistics management, and supply chain managementCognate industry experience would be in the fields of maritime, transport, logistics and supply chain.

International students with English as a second language will also need to have an IELTS score of 6, with no band less than 6.

TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 16; Listening 16; Speaking 18; Writing 22)

PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 50

UTAS Access-English Level 7 – 60% (no individual score less than 60%)

Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) – B Grade

Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) – C Grade

Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher – C Grade

In addition to the main campus at Sandy Bay, it also operates out of the Newnham Campus and the Cradle Coast Campus. The most popular courses offered are the environmental studies that include wilderness management, marine sciences and indigenous studies in Tasmanian literature. Other unconventional courses include agriculture development, studies on the community and population and ocean study programs. The university also comprises of a Music Conservatorium, Art school and a School of Clinical studies.
