COURSE DESCRIPTION

The maritime industry is at the forefront of international trade for sustainable development and is an exciting, dynamic, and challenging industry in which to work.

The Graduate Diploma of Maritime Management provides practical and applied knowledge suitable for both higher level professional and managerial roles. The course will help you develop a holistic and analytical perspective of the industry and equips you to develop solutions for complex issues faced by both domestic and international maritime business activities.
This is an ideal management course that will give you specific management skills appropriate for the maritime industry. The course provides you with the extensive knowledge and analytical skills required to meet challenges facing the maritime industry and to enhance your career opportunities in management positions in the industry.
This Graduate Diploma course provides a pathway to the Master of Business Administration in Maritime Management.

Learning Outcomes:
1 Facilitate managerial decision making utilising business management concepts, processes, and skills in a range of maritime sectors.
2 Solve maritime management problems using state-of-the-art managerial innovations, technologies, and shipping practices.
3 Present maritime management solutions using a range of sources to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Course structure:
You will complete eight units but the units that you will complete will depend on whether you are assessed as having a cognate or non-cognate background.
A cognate undergraduate degree would be in the same or related area eg, maritime management, logistics management, supply chain management, nautical science, marine engineering, maritime engineering (naval architecture, ocean engineering), and business management; or any Bachelor degree with a major in business, logistics management, and supply chain management
Cognate industry experience would be in the fields of maritime, transport, logistics and supply chain.

REQUIREMENTS

An undergraduate degree of an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institution and at least two years’ work experience; or A professional qualification such as a Certificate of Competency as a Master Class 1 (Unlimited) or Engineer Class 1/Chief Engineer (Unlimited) and at least two years’ work experience; or A Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management; or If a first degree or professional qualification is not held, candidates may apply to the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management for consideration of their eligibility. These applicants are assessed on their work experience, other qualifications and current managerial responsibilities.

Applicants who plan to undertake the two Maritime Technology units JEE504 and JEE529 must have: An undergraduate degree in engineering; or A Graduate Certificate in Engineering; or A professional qualification in engineering such as a Certificate of Competency Chief Engineer or Engineer Class 2.

International students with English as a second language will also need to have an IELTS score of 6, with no band less than 6.

TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 16; Listening 16; Speaking 18; Writing 22)

PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 50

UTAS Access-English Level 7 – 60% (no individual score less than 60%)

Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) – B Grade

Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) – C Grade

Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher – C Grade

In addition to the main campus at Sandy Bay, it also operates out of the Newnham Campus and the Cradle Coast Campus. The most popular courses offered are the environmental studies that include wilderness management, marine sciences and indigenous studies in Tasmanian literature. Other unconventional courses include agriculture development, studies on the community and population and ocean study programs. The university also comprises of a Music Conservatorium, Art school and a School of Clinical studies.
