COURSE DESCRIPTION

The medical biotechnology field has already transformed the way we prevent, diagnose and treat complex diseases across the globe. From biomarker discovery to the development of assays to detect disease, this rapidly growing field sits at the intersection of medical, science and engineering innovation.

At UTS, the Master of Medical Biotechnology draws on the professional methodologies used in the university’s world-class microscopy, mass spectrometry, proteomics and biomolecular analysis facilities. It combines theoretical learning and extensive hands-on practice with a range of professional and leadership subjects that prepare students to deliver enhanced value to future employers. For those with an interest in academia or industry-facing research, extensive elective choices enable the acquisition of high-level research and research administration skills, as well as the opportunity to contribute to a real-world research project in a UTS lab.

Careers

Graduates emerge ready for senior careers in lab-based research or in data analysis for health care policy or clinical trials. They are highly sought after by the medical biotech industry, as well as by organisations seeking a combination of advanced science and management expertise. They can work in medical device and biotechnology companies, government policy and regulation roles, and in research organisations where the ability to combine biology and biotechnology to solve medical problems offers significant value.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.

Entry into the course requires the completion of a bachelor’s, master’s, graduate diploma, graduate certificate qualification in biochemistry and cell biology, microbiology, human biology, genetics, laboratory technology, medical science, food science and biotechnology or pharmacology.

The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.
