COURSE DESCRIPTION

The UTS Master of Project Management is designed to enhance the knowledge, experience and careers of both aspiring and experienced project managers. This course equips students with the underlying knowledge and practical experience to drive project delivery across all industry sectors, such as information technology, construction and health.

Students in the Master of Project Management complete foundation subjects and then select from a range of advanced project management electives. Students may focus all electives on extending their project management expertise, or may elect to complete a specialist sub-major in one of seven disciplines:

Business

Construction

Engineering

Information Technology

Local government management

Property Development

Health

UTS’s Master of Project Management is accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Royal Society of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and is endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). It is the first Australian program to be accredited by PMI’s Global Accreditation Centre. The foundation subjects are compatible with the structures used by the PMI and Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) to certify practitioners.

UTS delivers most of the postgraduate project management subjects in intensive block workshops. These workshops offer an immersive experience where students work with their peers in a team-based, simulated project environment.

UTS academics are at the forefront of project management research internationally. This breadth of knowledge ensures that students have access to leading-edge thinking applied in both project-specific and organisational contexts. Teaching staff and specialist guest lecturers have extensive industry experience and knowledge of current trends in project management practice.

Graduates of the UTS Master of Project Management possess a detailed understanding of the role of project management in delivering organisational strategy and improving business productivity and profitability.

With UTS, the Master of Project Management may also be studied as a combined degree incorporating property development, the UTS Master of Property Development and Project Management.

They are in strong demand by industry due to their professional preparation and ability to merge theory with practice to improve project performance. The Master of Project Management’s focus on leadership, program management and governance enhances the employability of graduates at senior levels in local and international industries, including banking and finance, construction and engineering, event management, government, health and IT.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • a UTS recognised bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, or higher qualification or
  • a UTS Graduate Certificate in Project Management, or
  • a UTS Graduate Diploma in Project Management, or
  • a UTS Graduate Diploma in Construction Management.

Applications based on a UTS recognised bachelor’s degree or equivalent must provide the following:

  • a minimum of one year full time, or equivalent part time, relevant work experience (see note below), and
  • a CV clearly articulating project management experience, and
  • an employer’s letter confirming the dates of employment, and the position held, and
  • a personal statement (max. 300 words) explaining the reasons for wanting to study project management and demonstrating an understanding of basic project management concepts gained from work experience and knowledge of course expectations.

The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.
