COURSE DESCRIPTION
The study of Japanese language and culture offers exciting access to Japan’s rich culture of history, literature and arts as found in the fascinating blend of the ancient and the new which forms the basis of modern Japan.
This blend continues to dynamically transform through contemporary Japanese media such as film, anime and manga. As Japan is one of Australia’s major trading partners and plays an important role on the international political and economic stages, the study of Japanese exposes students to a world of socio-linguistic experience that offers an array of employment and research opportunities.
The Japanese major at UOW offers a linguistic journey which focuses on developing spoken and written language skills around real-world cultural situations, as well as providing students with the opportunity to study Japanese culture through literary and socio-historical research subjects (in English).
Students may also choose to opt for a Japanese minor or a second major from the Bachelor of Arts offerings.
