COURSE DESCRIPTION
Learn to build and maintain the infrastructure of advanced modern living when you study to become a civil engineer. Using computer technologies and advanced materials, civil engineers design structures that meet the needs of a growing population while protecting the environment, reducing dangers from natural phenomena and considering the future needs of the community.
The first year of study allows you to learn more about engineering and its different fields. You then focus on your chosen major from the second year; topics include structural engineering, water engineering, geomechanics, engineering management, engineering applications and design, materials and transport, and surveying.
From second year you also have the option to complete a double major, combining two engineering disciplines. Available double major combinations include civil engineering and architectural engineering, civil engineering and environmental engineering, and civil engineering and mining engineering.
Your degree includes a 12-week hands-on industry experience, either in Australia or overseas, as well as a range of industry projects and other career-ready learning opportunities.
Our faculty’s commitment to excellence is internationally recognised, as evidenced by the consistent ranking of our civil, manufacturing, mineral and mining, materials, and mechanical engineering courses among the top 150 universities worldwide.
