COURSE DESCRIPTION

Studying psychological science with neuroscience will provide you with a sound understanding of the molecular, neural and cognitive underpinnings of human behaviour and the investigative research methods used in the area. With further study these degrees can lead to professional registration as a psychologist.

Throughout the Bachelor of Psychological Science, you will gain comprehensive, foundational knowledge in the processes basic to human psychological functioning. This degree alone will not qualify you to be a practicing psychologist, rather it is the first stage of qualification required.

Using a foundation in biology, chemistry and psychophysiology, the Bachelor of Neuroscience provides insight into how we think, the processes underpinning ageing, neurological and mental health disorders. Throughout this degree you will be an active scientist, delving into diverse fields such as anatomy, biochemistry, psychopharmacology, and neuroscience.

A double degree at UOW provides a world-class qualification in less time and at less cost than studying the two degrees separately. Having a double degree will give you a competitive advantage in a crowded job market.

Accreditation & professional recognition: Graduates from the Bachelor of Neuroscience will be eligible to join the Neuroscience Research Australia NeuRa Foundation and the Australian Neuroscience Society. Completion of four years in Psychology is an important first step for registration as a psychologist in Australia. The Bachelor of Psychological Science is accredited as the first three years of study. To complete the four years, students must complete an Honours year to meet the academic requirements for eligibility for provisional registration as a psychologist. An additional two years of education and training is necessary to apply for general registration. This can be through a fifth year at University plus one year of supervised practice in the community or an approved postgraduate degree accredited at the fifth and sixth year level. You can find more information on general registration pathways on the Psychology Board of Australia website.
