This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform advanced diagnostic tasks in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.
Job Roles/Employment Outcomes
This qualification is intended to prepare individuals or to develop existing skills for performing mechanical technology service and repair tasks in the automotive industry. Job outcomes related to this qualification include:
• Automotive Master Technician
• Automotive Technical Advisor
Course Delivery and Assessment Methods
Delivery is conducted on campus and includes face to face teaching in classroom with tutorials and practicals delivered in Automotive Workshops, where students have the opportunity for hands on learning.
Assessments comprise of written questions, observation of demonstrations, project work, report, documentation etc.
Pathways
After achieving this qualification, individuals could progress to AUR50216 Diploma of Automotive Technology or other relevant qualifications within the training package.
Course Structure
A total of 10 Units (1 core and 9 electives) must be completed and deemed competent to achieve the qualification AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis.
REQUIREMENTS
There are no entry requirements specified in the training package. VTI requires following entry criteria to be met:
You must:
- Be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 or equivalent.
- Must have completed a AUR30616 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent.
- Have an IELTS* score of 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old with no band score less than 5 in each module).
English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
- IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS (minimum of 20 weeks) or IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS (minimum of 10 weeks) to be taken before the course. ELICOS must be at least at General English Upper Intermediate or English for Academic Purposes Upper-Intermediate level; OR
- Educated for 5 years in an English speaking country (Australia, United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa or the Republic of Ireland; OR
- An applicant who is a citizen of, and holds a valid passport issued by the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland; OR
- Completed (within the past 2 years) in Australia in English: Substantial component of AQF level 4 or higher on a student visa; OR
- Successful completion of an Oxford English Placement Test (score 62-B2)
