This double degree offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to specific goals by combining our accredited Bachelor of Laws degree with Arts for advanced academic knowledge and practical, real-life training. The Bachelor of Arts is designed to develop communication and personal skills, creativity and a capacity for independent thought, adaptability to new situations and problem-solving skills, attributes increasingly demanded by employers.
The Bachelor of Arts offers students an opportunity to develop a depth of disciplinary expertise together with the breadth of vision afforded by cross-disciplinary approaches to the humanities. The Bachelor of Laws program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills.
Bachelor of Arts graduates find employment in diverse areas including: communication and media industries; education; psychology and counselling; cultural, political and social policy analysis; writing and publishing. The Bachelor of Arts is designed to provide knowledge and generic skills that form the basis for lifelong learning.
The Bachelor of Laws provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, self-management, and ethical and professional awareness and judgement. Students will also develop skills in legal advocacy, negotiation, and legal technology and extend their professional and learning experiences through work integrated learning, clinical placement and international exchange engagements.
Western’s law programs are a unique alternative to more traditional law schools, with community law activities that give you real world experience. The School of Law operates the Western Sydney University Justice Clinic Opens in new window, providing a much-needed service, while giving students a unique clinical legal learning opportunity.

Gain practical legal skills
You will learn professional legal skills including the ability to analyse legal material, understand fundamental legal principles, understand the relationship between law and society, and gain general analytical skills for critical thinking and problem solving.
Special emphasis is placed on the development of skills in advocacy, negotiation, legal drafting and legal research.
You may also have the opportunity to take part in work experience during your program, such as working at the NSW Attorney General’s in legal aid, working in cooperative Summer Research Programs with industry, and in the Australian Taxation Office advisory support scheme.

REQUIREMENTS
Students must have Successful completion of Year 12 or an equivalent qualification.
English Language Requirements:
IELTS: 6.5 overall score (min 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL internet-based score of 82: Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50.
