COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to provide the training and theoretical background to equip you to work as a professional interpreter and translator.

In any dialogue between speakers of different languages, interpreters and translators are the essential link for effective communication. They are the highly prized frontline of international business and tourism, international diplomacy, and cross cultural community, health and legal work.

The languages offered at Western Sydney University are Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese and Spanish. You can also complete minor studies in advanced language, cultural studies and linguistics.

REQUIREMENTS

Students must have Successful completion of Year 12 or an equivalent qualification.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS: 6.5 overall score (min 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL internet-based score of 82: Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50.
