Gain a solid foundation in physics and mathematics, and enables you to acquire extensive knowledge in the area. You will learn to understand physics at a deeper level, apply scientific principles in a physics context, and understand the role of physics in society.
What you will study
First year
A typical first year may include:
- core topics in mathematics, fundamental physics, and the nature of science
- a topic in chemical structure and bonding or general chemistry
- a selection of electives
- elective topics in physics and mathematics, enabling those without Year 12 experience in these areas to enter the degree
Second year
A typical second year may include:
- core topics in several variable calculus, thermodynamics and electromagnetic waves, quantum concepts, classical physics, linear algebra and differential equations, and algebra
- a selection of electives
Third year
A typical third year may include:
- core topics in partial differential equations, nuclear and statistical physics, cosmology and optoelectronics, quantum physics, complex analysis, and methods of applied mathematics
- a selection of electives
Honours year
A typical honours year may include:
- a major physics research thesis allowing high-performing students to progress to a higher degree by research
- further development of professional skills, particularly those relevant to research and development
Your career
Diverse employment opportunities exist in a range of areas such as optics and photonics, telecommunications, micro-electronics, nano-electronics, instrumentation development, acoustics, geophysics and meteorology.

REQUIREMENTS
Flinders University recognises international secondary schooling for direct entry to undergraduate programs.
Knowledge of SACE stage two mathematical methods and physics or equivalent is assumed.
English language requirements
- IELTS (Academic): 6.0 Overall with 6.0 Speaking, 6.0 Writing;
- TOEFL iBT: 72 Overall with 18 Speaking, 21 Writing;
- Pearson PTE Academic: 50 Overall with 50 Speaking, 50 Writing;
- Cambridge C1 Advanced: 169 Overall with 169 Writing, 169 Speaking;
- Occupational English Test (OET): 300 Speaking, 300 Writing; Duolingo (Up to and including Semester 2, 2024): Overall 95-100
