COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide self-directed recovery-oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work involves implementing community-based programs and activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work is undertaken in a range of community contexts such as community based non-government organisations; home based outreach; centre-based programs; respite care; residential services, rehabilitation programs; clinical settings; or supporting people in employment. Work is carried out autonomously under the broad guidance of other practitioners and professionals.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 80 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 18 year of age
IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent
A minimum of Australian Year 12 or equivalent
Must have:
Access to a computer (with Adobe Reader, Microsoft Words and a web browser)
Access to the Internet
Access to a video and audio recording device
Computer skills include being comfortable using computers and the Internet to perform basic tasks such as accessing an online video conferencing software; using Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader; downloading, scanning, and uploading documents; accessing online materials; looking up information; reading and sending emails; and completing forms. (If students need any help regarding access to a computer and meeting the computer skill requirements, the college can provide support for the students)
Have a reasonable level of fitness in order to perform massage treatments to meet the physical requirements to carry out various massage techniques and manipulations.

Before commencing work placement, learners are required to provide:
A Working with Children Check when required
A Federal Police Check (name check), no more than 6 months when required
