COURSE DESCRIPTION

Get your big break into the music industry with this advanced qualification. Develop the specialised skills needed to be an outstanding performer or composer. This course will provide opportunities for you to perform and develop your stagecraft, access to studios and software to develop your songwriting and recording skills and will also give you access to a network of other like-minded music and sound production students so that you can recruit your success team to enter the music industry.

The creative arts industry plays an important role in Australia’s economy. According to the Australian Government’s My Skills service, it contributes over $10 billion to our economy and employs nearly 100,000 people. The emergence of new technologies and wide range of job prospects mean this is an exciting industry to be a part of.

In this course you’ll hone your skills in stage performance, songwriting and recording. Our highly experienced and passionate teaching team have years of industry experience and will give you one-on-one guidance to prepare you for a career in the music industry.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a music industry professional, performer, or composer. It will also give you the foundation knowledge needed to undertake further training in this field.

REQUIREMENTS

Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion.

You will be required to submit a videoed audition, performing two pieces with your chosen instrument or vocals in a contemporary/popular music genre. The pieces may be original songs or covers, and you may use your own backing tracks to accompany you. Classical music, musical theatre and jazz standards are not covered in this course so are not recommended. Applicants are also required to submit a written application outlining their musical experience.

International students who are under 18 years of age and are applying for a student visa are required by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs to have adequate welfare arrangements in place.

Academic IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other; iBT score of 46 with 8 in Reading /7 in Learning and 18 in writing /16 in speaking; PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English) overall score of 42 with Reading /Learning /writing /speaking score of 36; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) score of 162.

TAFE Queensland is the biggest provider of further education and vocational training courses in Queensland. On an average, every year more than 180,000 students complete a course at TAFE Queensland. The TAFE Queensland network is made up of six regions delivering training from Thursday Island to the Gold Coast, from Bundaberg to Roma and across the south-east corner. From the vast roster of courses, international students can choose to apply to over 170 courses in subjects as varied as Accounting, Electronics, Beauty Therapy and Commercial Cooking.
