COURSE DESCRIPTION

The unique learning needs of high-ability, talented students are fostered through our enriching Academic Talent Development (ATD) program. The program identifies outstanding natural abilities and provides opportunities for students to stretch themselves in an inspiring environment surrounded by like-minded peers.

The program focuses on timely and relevant topics, including STEM themes such as car design & engineering, space exploration and gamification, world events and sustainability.

GOAL SETTING AND TRACKING

Evidence suggests that appropriate goal setting and timely and specific feedback can lead to improved achievement, self-efficacy and self-regulation. There is a positive and significant impact when students track their own progress and set goals based on their current learning zone.

Research suggests that the practice of having students track their own progress & set goals is associated with up to a 32 percentile point gain in achievement.

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING

The Southport School is extremely fortunate to have a highly professional and accomplished teaching staff deeply committed to our students. We are proud of the number of staff who are published authors in their field, continuing higher study of Master and Doctorates and employed by the QCAA as confirmers, endorsers and markers. Our students benefit from the fact that our teaching staff model ongoing learning and personal development.

Our teachers regularly give of their time in extracurricular offerings, and academic support structures such as Study Gym, Boarder Support and Learning Support Upskills sessions. It is the people that make this community so special through their tireless commitment and expertise.

Applicants are required to have satisfactory levels of academic achievement and English language skills appropriate to the registered course being offered.
