An honours degree is a one-year program that builds upon undergraduate study by introducing the challenge of an extended research project.
There are many reasons we encourage graduates to apply for an honours year. You might want to build the necessary foundations for postgraduate research. You could be seeking mathematical-based solutions to problems in industry, commerce, science, entertainment, or the public sector. Perhaps you’re pursuing advanced communication and research skills to gain a competitive edge in the job market.
Our researchers work at the cutting edge of science and technology and our mathematics programs are ranked in the top 150 in the world*. Our prerequisite for honours study is at least a credit standard GPA.
What will you do?
Attend regular classes for advanced coursework.
Conduct a major research project in your chosen specialisation.

Career Readiness
Graduates are highly regarded by employers and opportunities exist in a wide range of occupations in business, industry, commerce, government, public service and teaching and research organisations.
Recent graduates have been employed by organisations such as the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), United Water, Santos, the Bureau of Meteorology and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Additionally, graduates find work in consulting engineering firms, the pharmaceutical industry, the telecommunications industry, biomedical research industries and institutes, banks and insurance companies, state and federal government agencies, and research and academic organisations all over the world.

The honours degree allows specialisations in pure mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics.
