COURSE DESCRIPTION

Bachelor of Laws overview

  • Graduate sooner with our Bachelor of Laws. You have the option to fast-track your study and complete this degree in 2 years full-time over 6 consecutive semesters.
  • Study online or on-campus at either Ipswich or Toowoomba and engage with expert lecturers and fellow students who are as passionate about law as you are.
  • Prepare yourself to practice as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland, or a legal practitioner elsewhere in Australia. This degree is accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board as an academic qualification for admission as a lawyer in Queensland.
  • Explore a range of law specialisations by undertaking electives in your areas of interest.
  • Have confidence that you are gaining a quality, industry relevant law degree. An Advisory Committee of senior judges and lawyers have given this degree their professional endorsement.
  • Learn from lecturers who have a wealth of experience in a diverse range of backgrounds, including criminal law, human rights, international and comparative law, family law, environmental law, property law and commercial law.
  • Hone your skills in simulated court hearings with UniSQ’s Wonderley & Hall Moot Court. Fully equipped with audio-visual and video conferencing capabilities, you’ll have access to this purpose built facility regardless of whether you study on-campus or online.
  • Become involved and expand your legal knowledge by attending our research seminars and public lectures, engaging in networking events, or becoming a member of the UniSQ Law Society.

Professional accreditation

The Bachelor of Laws has been accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board, Queensland, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland as an approved academic qualification under the Supreme Court (Legal Practitioner Admission) Rules 2004 (Qld).

It has also been approved by the Australian Law Schools Standards Committee under the Standards for Australian Law Schools adopted by the Council of Australian Law Deans. This degree will partially satisfy the requirements to practise as a lawyer in Queensland or elsewhere in Australia. Intending lawyers must also complete an approved practical legal training course in order to become admitted to practise law. Career outcomes

  • Graduates are qualified to perform roles such as barrister, solicitor, public prosecutor, community lawyer, legal officer, or in-house counsel for large companies.
  • Bachelor of Laws also opens up a wide range of career paths within the public service sector, government, politics, as well as non-government organisations and businesses.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicant must have Australian year 12 level or equivalent.

Students from different country must have qualifications equivalent to Australia.

English language requirements

IELTS (Academic only) – Overall minimum score of 6.5 and no individual band score of less than 6.0; TOEFL (internet based) – Overall minimum score of 90 and no individual skills score of less than 20; Pearson (PTE Academic) – Overall score of 58 and no individual Communicative Skills score of less than 58; Cambridge C1 Advanced C2 Proficiency – Overall minimum score of 185 with no less than 185 in each skill.
