COURSE DESCRIPTION

Now more than ever, business leaders need to consider a multitude of issues linked to ‘sustainable development’ when managing their organisation.

As stakeholders increasingly demanding greater accountability from organisations to address their environmental and social impacts, sustainability-related performance is now acknowledged as an integral aspect of business – with a failure to do so putting an organisation’s future at risk.

The Graduate Certificate of Sustainable Business is designed to develop business professionals with the skills to tackle these sustainability-related issues in an increasingly socially and environmentally minded business climate. Studying this course leaves you well equipped to enter or grow in the fields of socially responsible investment, business continuity, and governance and assurance.

This course is composed from 4 units, with flexible learning options available.

Course objectives

The Graduate Certificate of Sustainable Business is designed to train you in a way that encourages them to protect the environment for current and future generations by considering the impacts of real-life technical challenges upon different organisational stakeholders.

By critically reflecting on the sustainability of organisational business policies and strategies, you’ll report on, and embrace accountability for, sustainability-related performance. You’ll gain a robust understanding of challenges currently present in the business environment in Tasmania and further afield, enabling graduates to refine their contemporary knowledge of sustainability resolution practices as required by employers.

You’ll be expected to review and comment on the relevance of sustainable development to various forms of organisations and how both internal and external stakeholders – that, includes management, accountants, auditors, shareholders, government – can help in promoting sustainable development. In addition, this course assists you to develop skills to question organisational operations and present solutions using effective written and oral communication skills by applying their technical knowledge and ability to research problems as they relate to implementing sustainable practices.

Learning Outcomes

1 Identify and evaluate various sustainability-related risks and opportunities that confront organisations and society.
2 Think critically to formulate solutions, make decisions and recommendations about contemporary business problems related to the sustainability agenda.
3 Communicate both in oral and written form to justify proposed initiatives for improving the social and environmental performance of an organisation.

Graduates of this course will be prepared to work across industry sectors as sustainability-informed professionals. Drawing on course content, you’ll be prepared to help organisations in understanding their social and environmental impacts and ensuring that important sustainability issues are addressed.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

  • A completed AQF7 bachelor’s degree or above, or approved equivalent, in any discipline.

Applicants with work experience

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

  • Qualifications, relevant work experience or other special circumstances, as approved by the College Executive Dean or delegated authority.

IELTS (Academic) – 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0)

TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 16; Listening 16; Speaking 18; Writing 22)

PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 50

UTAS Access-English Level 7 – 60% (no individual score less than 60%)

Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) – B Grade

Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) – C Grade

Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher – C Grade

In addition to the main campus at Sandy Bay, it also operates out of the Newnham Campus and the Cradle Coast Campus. Other unconventional courses include agriculture development, studies on the community and population and ocean study programs.
