COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Bachelor of Design, Fashion Design, is for students who want to pursue careers as innovative designers. It sets out to deliver a clear understanding and experience of generating, developing and realising a variety of creative womenswear, menswear and accessory design to a professional standard.

Students are encouraged to develop their personal design vision within the context of an existing and expanding fashion market, incorporating both classic and innovative design concepts. The diversity of the fashion industry is conveyed through a varied curriculum, targeted projects and the guidance of established and visiting lecturers who are specialists in this sector.

Essential skills you will learn include: design research methods, flat pattern cutting, modelling on the stand, garment construction, tailoring processes and finishing, technical specification, illustration and presentation, textile exploration, print making, marketing & branding.

REQUIREMENTS

  • The applicant to be at least 18 years at application
  • High School Report, Certificate of Education within Australian States & Territories such as VCE/HSC or Highest Qualification Achieved or equivalent

English Language Requirements

  • Successfully completed previous studies in which the language of instruction, examination and assessment was in English, or
  • Completed an English proficiency test – minimum English standard Academic IELTS of 6.5 (with no band lower than 6.0) or TOEFL 79 -93.

Whitehouse Institute of Design

Whitehouse Institute of Design, established in 1988, is an educational provider focusing on design education- with two campuses across Australia- of which one is in Melbourne. Some of the study options on offer include the Certificate III in Design Fundamentals; Certificate IV in Design; Bachelor of Design; and Master of Design. The Institute’s academic staff are actively engaged in industry practice. Whitehouse students enjoy the opportunity to study abroad for one study period at either the University of Creative Arts in London or Accademia Italiana Arte Moda Design in Florence, Italy.
