COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course fosters interdisciplinary discussion and collaboration and is designed to suit a range of health professionals who seek to develop their knowledge and skills in health professional education. Fundamental issues in health professional education are addressed and a range of options in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Education are offered. Students can also pursue a particular area of research interest within health professional education. Due to the structure of the course, International Students can only commence in Semester 1, February, each year.

The course is designed to advance the skills of our healthcare educators by imparting a deeper understanding of issues around leadership, education, research and primary care to deliver the highest standard of medical and healthcare education.

Course structure

Postgraduate coursework degrees and combined (coursework and research) degrees comprise a number of units.

Our flexible delivery mode gives you the opportunity to study full time or part time through a combination of face-to-face teaching and online, additionally each year some units are also available as intensive short courses.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—(a) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; or(b)(i) a bachelor’s degree in a health, biomedical or biological sciences-related discipline, or an equivalent qualification; and(ii) at least one year of relevant professional experience; or(c)(i) completed the Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education or Graduate Diploma in Health Professions Education at UWA; and(ii) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent in all core units.

English language requirements:

TOEFL (paper-based): 570 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of no less than 4.5

IBT TOEFL (Internet-based test score): 82 with 22 for writing, 20 for speaking, 20 for listening, and 18 for reading

IELTS (Academic): overall score of at least 7.0 and no band less than 6.5

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: C pass

Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B grade

Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic): Overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 64 in the Reading and Writing sections, 59 in the Speaking section and 54 in the Listening section
