COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Bachelor of Communications & Media explores the principles and techniques of communications and media by examining and creating print, screen and multimedia texts, using traditional, and new and emerging media and screen production technologies. The Bachelor of Arts component of this double degree allows you to complete an in-depth study in a humanities or social science subject from a wide range of disciplines and to develop skills that will enable you to apply your knowledge in a range of situations and contribute effectively to the cultural and intellectual life of society.

Why study this program?

Communications and media are an exciting and inescapable part of modern life. With the advent of social media, the 24-hour news cycle and the development of citizen journalism, as well as the multiplatform delivery of film and screen production, the traditional media landscape has changed beyond recognition. This has presented new opportunities and avenues of communication for filmmakers, journalists, photographers and other media practitioners.

The Bachelor of Communications & Media component of this double degree effectively prepares you for a wide range of jobs. Our degree provides you with a unique opportunity to learn about journalism, film and screen production, digital communication, photography and much more. This program teaches you how to develop communication and media strategies and skills using contemporary techniques suitable for many types of workplaces.

You will complete a Major in either Journalism or Film and Screen Production or Photography. You then have a lot of choice – you can complete a second Major in one of these three areas or a Minor. Or you can complete a second Major or Minor in a complementary area of study from a range of humanities, science and social science disciplines. The Bachelor of Arts component will develop your ability to analyse, interpret, deliberate, draw conclusions, communicate, work as a team member and problem-solve. You will be able to consider multiple perspectives and handle ambiguity and uncertainty.

You will study an Arts Major in a humanities or social science area of your choice which will give you in-depth, specialist knowledge and skills that will allow you to contribute effectively to the cultural and intellectual life of society. Our Majors include English Literature, Social Justice, Politics and International Relations, History, Archaeology, Theatre Studies, Journalism and Film and Screen Production.

Communications specialists are needed in many organisations and as a result communications and media graduates are in demand. Combining your professional skills and technical knowledge with the versatile skills gained by completing your Bachelor of Arts, will make you a resourceful and capable asset to many workplaces.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet High school qualifications (or equivalent) to apply for undergraduate program. Academic minimum entry requirements for international applicants vary from country to country.

IELTS (Academic) – 6.5 overall, with no individual band score lower than 6.0; CAE/CPE – 176 overall, with no individual band score lower than 169; PTE Academic – 58 overall, with no individual band score lower than 50; TOEFL (iBT) – 84 overall, with no score lower than 21 in writing and no other band score lower than 17.
