With our Sydney campus located on the grounds of the biggest private hospital in NSW, when you study Nursing at Avondale, you will learn in state-of-the-art facilities and in hospital ward-like simulation centres, gain experience in a diverse range of healthcare organisations through 800 hours of clinical placements, and have the option to complete the first year of study at our Sydney or Lake Macquarie campuses.
The course will help you become a capable registered nurse who can provide the best care to patients. There is high demand for registered nurses in the health care system in public, private and community settings with employment opportunities in local, national and international healthcare environments.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Nursing, graduates will be able to:
adapt knowledge and practice skills competently as a nurse in accordance with professional practice standards for nurses as outlined by NMBA (2016) within the diverse Australian health context;
apply primary health care principles, health promotion and education approaches to health needs of self, individuals and groups from a holistic framework;
demonstrate sensitivity to individuals and groups from various cultures and belief systems to deliver culturally competent and safe care within an Australian context;
demonstrate effective communication skills and the capacity for self-management, collaboration, team work and leadership;
maintain an environment that promotes safe practice, workplace health and safety, security and personal integrity of individuals and groups;
reflect an intellectual openness and curiosity, utilising creative and reflective thinking and clinical reasoning, to identify solutions to problems and incorporate best practice approaches in nursing practice;
base practice on a knowledge base derived from nursing and the support disciplines (biological, psycho- social science) as a basis for independent, research informed life-long learning;
display cognitive, technical and information literacy skills to identify and evaluate new knowledge and practices in nursing and judge the suitability of adaptation to different contexts of practice.

As a registered nurse, you will have the opportunity to diversify into other health areas and/or specialise in a particular area.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants with higher education study
Completion or partial completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework AQF Level 7 qualification at an accredited university or higher education provider; or
Successful completion of bridging or enabling course, or another recognised tertiary preparation course
Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study
An Australian Qualifications Framework AQF Level 4 qualification or higher; or
A New Zealand Qualifications Framework NZQF Level 4 qualification or higher
Applicants with work and life experience
An ATAR equal to or above 63.00; or
An appropriate score in the uniTEST and the Tertiary Online Written Assessment; or
An appropriate score in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
English Language Requirements:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic): 7 (with no sub-band below 7)
TOEFL iBT: 94 (minimum score of 24 in listening, 24 in reading, 27 in writing and 23 in speaking)
Occupational English Test (OET): Minimum score of B in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
Pearson Test of English (Academic): 65 with a minimum score of 65 in each of the four communicative skills
