COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this era of the 24/7 news cycle, there has never been a greater demand for well-informed, analytical, and balanced communicators who bring a global perspective to the journalistic process.

Bond University’s Bachelor of Journalism combines the core journalistic values of evidence, fairness, and accuracy with an in-depth understanding of storytelling in the digital age.

Learn to conceptualise, research, and create compelling content across the spectrum of traditional media and digital platforms. In our state-of-the-art news studios and multimedia editing suites, you will develop podcasts, videos, and social media content, as well as news articles and magazine stories for print and digital media and television segments.

You will have the opportunity to report for local, national, and international media outlets and to undertake journalism and digital media internships in Australia and overseas, including New York, Washington, and London.

Our extensive choice of majors and minors gives you the flexibility to tailor your journalism degree to suit your career ambitions or personal interests.

At Bond, you can complete a Bachelor of Journalism and a relevant master’s degree within the same amount of time that a student at another university would take to complete just a bachelor’s degree. This combination of degrees would help you start your career a step ahead of other graduates.

The Bachelor of Journalism is driven by a digital-first ethos and grounded in core journalistic traditions and values of truth, fairness, and accuracy. This approach will empower you to harness and exploit established and emerging technologies to create career opportunities and new pathways. Throughout your degree, you will learn to conceptualise and create original and compelling content across platforms and will be encouraged to use digital storytelling to engage with social issues and advocate for change. You will build a substantial portfolio of practical work aligned with industry standards, defining yourself as a specialised professional via a choice of real-world majors and minors. Access to world-class facilities and opportunities to report for local, national, and international media outlets will be available to you.

What can you do with your degree?

The media landscape has been transformed over the past two decades with a significant switch from traditional to digital media. Opportunities still exist – and will always exist – for graduates looking for a career in print journalism, television, radio, web journalism, and photojournalism.

With its focus on digital media skills and content creation, this degree also provides the ideal launching pad for careers in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The University’s underlying focus on entrepreneurship creates an incubator for graduates who are interested in launching and monetising their own media opportunities, such as blogging, vlogging, podcasting, social media influencing, data journalism, and multi-media / graphic design.
