COURSE DESCRIPTION

This International Dual Degree provides you with an opportunity to gain valuable international experience while receiving two degrees.

Graduates will receive both a Bachelor of Global Media and Communication from ECU, and a BA (Hons) Global Communications and Media from the University of Portsmouth (UK).
It will equip you with the necessary skills for a career in the media and communications industry and takes advantage of the specialisations each university offers.
The course prepares graduates to work in the media industries nationally and internationally. It focuses on providing a critical understanding of global media, practical industry skills, cultural contexts and professional communication, and fosters a creative and critical global mindset. The choice of units will help you navigate complexity and diversity in a rapidly changing work environment. Specialisations are available in either Media and Journalism or Screen, Media and Cultural Studies providing relevant industry skills and a comprehensive transdisciplinary understanding of media production, consumption and representation.

Course learning outcomes

Apply Media, Communication and Cultural Studies knowledge to a range of theoretical and technical/practical local, international and global media situations.

Think critically to analyse, interpret and conceptualise/synthesise complex Media & Communication knowledge/problems with an understanding of cultural, social and political influences.

Think creatively to anticipate challenges and generate Media and Communication solutions/responses.

Use digital technologies and Media and Communication related literacy to access, evaluate and synthesise relevant information from multiple sources.

Communicate local, international and global Media and Communication knowledge and ideas clearly, coherently and with independence.

Demonstrate a global outlook with respect for cultural diversity, including Indigenous cultural competence.

Work collaboratively and demonstrate initiative to implement social, sustainable, and ethical values through appropriate disciplinary methods.

Demonstrate autonomy, accountability and judgement for own learning and scholarship and/or professional practice.

REQUIREMENTS

There are various ways to meet our admission requirements, such as:

Secondary school results

Successful completion of one year of tertiary study from a recognised institution

Completed Diploma program from a recognised institution

English competency requirements:

IELTS Academic: An overall band minimum score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 6.0. (Results are typically valid for 2 years and online tests are not acceptable.)

TOEFL iBT: 70 (no individual score less than 17)

TOEFL Paper-Based Test (PBT): Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better. (Results are typically valid for only 2 years.)

Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 52, with no scores less than 50. (Results are typically valid for only two years.)
