COURSE DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW

Behind every film and television show is a talented writer who crafts the stories that are brought to life. Screenwriting is a special skill that not only requires talent, but also a dedication and a deep understanding of story and dramatic structure.

The New York Film Academy Australia’s Screenwriting program provides an environment that brings aspiring screenwriters to a point where they can meet the standards of the industry. New York Film Academy Australia delivers the nationally recognised program CUA60620 – Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media with selected subjects focusing on screenwriting. Students learn through taking action, writing intensively, completing several projects, and listening to constructive peer and professor evaluations.

A PROGRAM UNLIKE ANY OTHER

By the end of the course, each student will have written a feature-length screenplay, as well as original content for television, while learning the core principles behind screenwriting, story generation, and the vast film and television industry.

Since creating a film does not happen in a vacuum, students also get a taste of other aspects of filmmaking, such as acting, pitching, and even editing. This provides a real-world atmosphere to the program and provides a clearer view of where the screenwriters fit into the equation.

This unique experience will not only show you how to properly craft a story, but also allows you to exit the academy with the skills necessary to produce, pitch, and sell your ideas.

CUA60620 – ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF SCREEN AND MEDIA – SCREENWRITING: SUBJECTS

Students take a wide variety of screenwriting classes, covering everything from story generation, writing for television vs. film, to film history, the business of screenwriting, and new media. Contact hours include in-class instruction as well as instructor-supervised writing workshops, where students gain hands-on experience learning tried and true techniques that will prepare them for the industry. All of this is done under the guidance of expert instructors who are active professionals in their fields.

CUA60620 – ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF SCREEN AND MEDIA – SCREENWRITING: PROJECTS

In addition to the program’s coursework, students will complete a multitude of projects over the course of the program that help them develop professional-level skills, working on everything from short exercises to full-fledged screenplays, and even short film productions.
