COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of heavy commercial vehicles in the automotive service and repair sector. This qualification is essential to become a heavy commercial vehicle technician. Successful completion of this course will allow students to become a qualified tradesperson servicing and repairing trucks, buses, earth-moving equipment, or tractors and other farming machinery. According to the Australian Government’s Job Outlook service, demand for qualified mechanics (including diesel mechanics) grew strongly over the past five years with employers finding it hard to fill vacancies. Job openings are expected to remain steady in the near future with around 23,000 job opening expected over the next five years. In this course students will apply their practical skills and gain underpinning knowledge of how to diagnose problems, repair and service a range of systems and components of heavy vehicles and equipment. Students will repair and service engines, transmissions, cooling, steering and suspension systems, electrical circuits and systems, hydraulic and air braking systems, and diesel fuel injection systems. Students will also apply their skills and knowledge to complete heavy vehicle safety and roadworthy inspections. Successful completion of this qualification will allow them to apply to become a qualified heavy vehicle tradesperson and continue your career in the industry.
Completion of total number of 36 units are required for the award of the AUR31120 – Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
Core units: 22 units
Elective units: 14 units, of which:
· 1 unit must be from one of the Specialist Elective Groups A or B listed in the AUR31120 qualification.
· of the remaining 13 units required to make up the elective unit total:
up to 13 may be from the Specialist Elective Groups and/or the general elective units listed in the AUR31120 qualification.
up to 6 may be from a Certificate II qualification or above in the AUR Training Package or another endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
Elective units chosen must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the overall integrity of the AQF alignment, not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification, and contribute to a valid vocational outcome.
REQUIREMENTS
OCT has the following entry requirements in place for international students:
•
be at least 18 years of age.
•
participate in a course entry interview (pre-enrolment review) to determine suitability of the course and additional support needs.
•
undertake OCT’s ACSF LLN assessment.
English Language Requirements:
Prospective learner must have taken any of the following test types and achieved the minimum score in the last three (3) years.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 5.5
TOEFL internet-based test: 46
Cambridge English: Advanced (Certificate in Advanced English): 162
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 42
Occupational English Test: B for each test component
