COURSE DESCRIPTION

This program is designed to help individual professionals and their organisations understand and apply contemporary Australian and international approaches to effective regulation and governance. Thematic issues covered include regulatory complexity, risk assessment, responsiveness, compliance, technology and regulation, and managing stakeholders. It is designed for people who manage regulatory portfolios and projects in government, business or NGO settings — or who will do so in future. It supports professionals who work with regulatory stakeholders, including business and industry, Territory, State and Federal government agencies, the legislature, community actors and the media. Adopting an applied approach, the program uses case studies, hands-on assessments and examples of regulatory excellence from Australia, Europe, North America and Asia and the Pacific. This degree comprises 24 units which can be completed part-time over a year.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of foundational issues in the fields of regulation and governance, in Australia and globally
  • Reflect critically on regulatory policy issues and practical challenges of regulatory governance in diverse contexts
  • Demonstrate familiarity with research principles relevant to the fields of regulation and governance
  • Identify appropriate analysis and research methods for regulatory policy challenges
  • Analyse political, technical or institutional regulatory policy problems from interdisciplinary perspectives
  • Develop and communicate regulatory policy analysis or recommendations in changing political, social and policy environments
  • Understand challenges relating to design, management, implementation and evaluation of regulatory policies

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must present one of the following:

A Bachelor degree or an international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 4/7

A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in a role that has responsibility for organization-level or public, private or NGO sector-wide regulatory system design and/or monitoring and compliance and/or enforcement (an employer statement of service and evidence of the work experience will be required)

A minimum of 10 years’ work experience in one or more roles at ANZSCO Skill Level 1. These roles need not relate directly to regulation and/or governance. Most occupations at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1)

English Language Requirements

IELTS Academic and IELTS UKVI Academic [excluding One Skill Retake and IELTS Online] – Overall score of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band.

TOEFL iBT Paper Edition and TOEFL iBT [excluding Paper Edition and Home Edition] – Overall score of 80 (Reading – 20; Writing – 20; Listening – 18; Speaking – 18).

Cambridge C1 Advanced – Overall score of 176 minimum 169 in each band.

PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI [excluding PTE Academic Online] – Overall score of 64 minimum 55 in each band.
