COURSE DESCRIPTION
Combining relevant aspects from all engineering disciplines, software development, electronic hardware design and mechatronics, this major covers the principles, design and operation of industrial robot manipulators, as well as intelligent autonomous robots and self-driving vehicles.
Robotics, automation and Industry 4.0 will provide some of the most exciting opportunities and biggest challenges of our times. With new technologies being conceived every day, this is a rapidly evolving, exciting field that pushes the boundaries of what is possible.
This course is designed for those interested in contributing to developments in these fields and will provide you with the broad interdisciplinary knowledge and skills that industry is looking for.
The course combines software development with electronic hardware and mechanical/mechatronics design.
During your studies you will have hands-on experience in Python and C programming. You will design and run testing of digital and embedded systems, develop control methodologies for automation and robotics applications and work on open-ended projects in teams which include taking personal responsibility, reflection on ethical practice in engineering, and the use of industry standard codes and processes.
Why study Automation and Robotics Engineering?
Robotics, automation, artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0 are high-growth areas, with strong demand for skills and knowledge
Along with the technical expertise, you‘ll develop the multidisciplinary professional skills and breadth of knowledge industry is seeking
You will become an industry-ready engineer with sought-after automation and robotic expertise. Robotics are increasingly instrumental in engineering projects with remote operating systems, in offshore projects, mining, agriculture and healthcare – the driving forces of our economy.
You’ll learn to
Utilise advanced technical automation and robotics engineering skills in problem identification, simplification, analysis, planning, design, implementation and operation for an exciting career in Engineering.
Create innovative engineering solutions to solve complex issues by applying critical thinking skills and your knowledge of established engineering methods
Understand and implement the mathematical foundations underlying automation and robotics engineering concepts
Develop a deep practical understanding of the core concepts of automation and robotics engineering and extend this knowledge to more specialised areas such as advanced manufacturing, mechatronics, digital systems, microprocessors and embedded systems, factory automation, manufacturing and automotive industries
Work effectively in a team, bringing leadership and accountability to successfully solve real-world problems
Career Pathways
You can find careers in areas such as:
Automation lead
Robotics system developer
Robotics and automation engineer or consultant
Mechatronic engineer
Mechanical engineer
Computer systems engineer
