Though there aren\u2019t many certain rules, there are some key things that all applicants will be assessed on:\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheir Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or the equivalent \nTheir previous academic results (including previous university qualifications for postgraduate applicants)\nTheir written submission (if applicable)\nTheir portfolio presentation (if applicable)\nTheir level of English language ability\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs an example, if an international student wants to study for a Certificate IV in interior design, they only need to meet certain English language requirements to be eligible. But if an international student wants to study for a bachelor\u2019s degree in business (accounting), they need to have achieved good pass scores at Year 12 level of secondary school or the equivalent in their country (and they\u2019re more likely to be selected if they performed well in mathematics, accounting, or economics subjects).\n\n\n\n\n\nEnglish Score Required\n\n\nBecause English is the language of teaching at Holmesglen, all international students have to demonstrate a certain level of skill in English to be considered for admission. Each of the programmes will have individual requirements, which will be listed on individual course pages on the Holmesglen website.\n\n\n\n\n\nTo give an example, an international student applying for a bachelor\u2019s degree in information systems will need a minimum International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall band score of at least 6 or the equivalent score in a different testing method accepted by the university. For a Certificate IV qualification in health administration, this IELTS overall band score requirement will drop to a minimum of 5.5.\n\n\n\n\n\nThere are some English language pathway programmes for students who don\u2019t speak English as a first or fluent additional language. The Pathway English programme helps students develop their writing, speaking, listening and reading skills so that they can apply for future studies at Holmesglen. Before being placed on a pathway course, all applicants will be interviewed and assessed on their language capabilities.\n\n\n\n\n\nThere are also several courses available for migrants to Australia. The Adult Migrant English Programme allows students to strengthen their English skills in all areas before they reach the vocational level. Many of the courses are designed for students to take their academic and study skills further, but the SLPET EAL II course also teaches them about the Australian workplace, from the language to the culture.\n\n\n\n\n\nAdmission\n\n\nThe university admission process for international students applying to Holmesglen includes a few different steps. Not all of the courses and qualifications at the university are available to international students, so step one is making sure that a programme is available to them (and then that they meet any entry requirements that do happen to apply).\n\n\n\n\n\nStep two in the student admission journey is downloading the digital application form.
